Just once football story moose7/26/2023 ![]() ![]() What I loved about the book: The character development, the plotline, scenery description and, of course, Troy & Will's major hotness. No glove, no love.ĪRC received in exchange for an honest review. Because one rule that most certainly does not need to be bent or broken or rewritten in the romance market is the one where the hero (or heroine for that matter) is sexually healthy. So I had to put down my Kindle at 20%, shaking my head thinking, ‘Dude, stop talking about your dick and touching your dick and go get treatment for it!’Īnd while I can thankfully say that’s a first in my reading experience, I surely hope it’s also the last. *Checks calendar to make sure it’s not April 1st.* I don’t find a ‘romantic hero’ with an STD (or a douchbag personality) sexy or romantic in the least, and I surely couldn’t continue reading and risk reaching a sex scene after that disclosure, especially when he didn’t exactly rush to have it treated. ![]() I only continued for a few pages beyond that in case it was a joke. Don't even think about it) should really be referring to Troy’s penis! I don’t know in what universe this makes for an attractive hero in a romance novel, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss the memo that it was a desirable quality in this galaxy. The first few lines of the blurb ( Off limits. But the final deal breaker in continuing came when Troy announced that he has an STD!!! Several paragraphs are devoted to Troy discussing how much his dick likes his current girlfriend-GROSS! As a romance reader, I just don’t need those mental visuals of the H’s privates and another woman even if thankfully it wasn’t depicted in an actual scene. Troy comes across braggy, egotistical, and a real tool. Charlotte comes across weak, wishy-washy, and then just a little psycho, showing up like she does. ![]() Their inner monologues, thought process, and outright actions were really quite bizarre I started to question if this was a parody of some sort. The story opens with both of them in long term relationships with other people they don’t love or want to commit to. The reason they weren’t together in the first place seemed avoidable and archaic, and where the story finds them in the present is…well frankly it’s cringe-worthy. In fact, I honestly wanted to bang both of their foreheads against the wall to knock some sense into them. Right off the bat, I didn’t care much for either Charlotte or Troy. But that’s not entirely the exact romantic premise of this story. From the blurb, I was under the impression that the “brother’s best friend” had decided to pursue the girl that he’d longed for, consequences be damned. DNF me start by explaining that I had high hopes that this would be a fun, sexy, older brother’s best friend/younger sister love story. ![]()
